$14.54The Story
Far from being a reference to an Éric Lapointe song, À l'ombre de l'ange (In the Shadow of the Angel) is a truly fantastic blend. Made from a barley wine aged for 19 months in Heaven Hill bourbon barrels and an imperial stout aged for 24 months in MGP bourbon barrels, this beer embodies the tenderness of dark beers. It has a velvety, sweet character, enveloped by the warmth of the alcohol and the bourbon barrel aging. Lightly carbonated, it leans more towards the caramel notes typical of these types of beers, almost like a sponge toffee. Easy (too easy, even) to drink, it's the kind of dark beer that brings you just close enough to gustatory heaven, or, as we like to call it, to the shadow of the angel.
